Discord is expanding Connections, a tool that lets users show what music they’re listening to, by letting people authenticate their identity using other platforms. In the next weeks, admins can provide dedicated server responsibilities to users with other accounts.

Linked Roles aim to build trust. Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, Epic Games, Battle.net, League of Legends, Riot Games, Reddit, TikTok, Twitter, YouTube, Twitch, Instagram, Spotify, Facebook, GitHub, Crunchyroll, PayPal, and eBay support this feature. Charlemagne (Destiny 2) and Bloxlink (Roblox) support Linked Roles.

You can show related accounts on your Discord profile, along with follower count or eBay seller feedback rating. If you’re selling art on Discord, you can link your DeviantArt and Discord accounts to prove ownership. Admins and moderators can provide server jobs with rewards, such as access to select channels, to users who authenticate with Connections and meet other prerequisites.

Admins can select Linked Role unlocking settings. They can need users to link to an old Steam account with a particular number of Dota 2 or Team Fortress 2 stuff to prove they’re real players. Users can access Linked Role requirements from a server’s dropdown menu. When they meet the prerequisites, each job is immediately awarded.

Discord considers privacy. Even if you linked accounts before joining a server, admins and moderators wouldn’t automatically access your Connections. Before seeing your connected accounts’ details, you must opt-in to a server’s Linked Roles. If you’re eligible, you can get a Linked Role on a server without showing your Connections. Discord can resolve things without admins or moderators seeing your info.

Linked Roles build on earlier Connections features, such as showing off your Xbox or PlayStation game on Discord. Discord is launching Linked Roles as Twitter revamps account verification. Cross-platform authentication verifies identification. Thanks to linked Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok accounts, you can tell if a Discord profile belongs to a famous creator.

Discord is adding green checkmarks to select Connections. The app icon will indicate a trusted developer. Discord said this will “build trust between apps from developer partners and millions of Discord users

Today, there are 22 “official” apps. Next year, Discord will offer an official app application process. Developers can add Connection functionality to apps utilizing a new API.
